Lightwire Theatre’s “The Ugly Duckling” – Arts Council of Central Louisiana
January 25, 2019 @ 7:00 pm
Lightwire Theatre returns to Coughlin-Saunders performing Arts Center with the beloved tale of The Ugly Duckling.
Lightwire Theater is an award-winning company that produces glow-in-the-dark shows meant to entertain audiences of all ages. On Friday, January 25th, 2019 the company will perform their rendition of The Ugly Duckling, a classic story given an original and illuminated twist. A dazzling and high-tech production, the performance includes sets, costumes, puppets and props that light up in the dark through the innovative use electroluminescent (EL) wires. As the lights go out and bright, colorful shapes come to life in the dark, characters swirl, float and fly across the stage to a soundtrack of both classical and modern music.
While “The Ugly Duckling” is a classic story, Lightwire Theater puts their own unique spin on their rendition of the tale. “We felt it was important for our Ugly Duck to gain the love and respect from his foster family by his courageous act of saving them from a ‘bad’ cat,” explained Ian Carney, the creator of the troupe. “For him to be loved just because he grew into something beautiful was not a strong enough message for us, so we focused more on our Duck’s inner beauty.”
Lightwire Theater has been featured as semi-finalists on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and winners of Tru TV’s Fake Off. The group combines theater and technology to bring stories to life in complete darkness and are internationally recognized for their signature brand of electroluminescent artistry.
Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors (65+), $10 for students, and $45 for a family (2 adults and 2 children).
