Please join The Arts Council of Central Louisiana on Friday, April 28th at for a screening of Hunky Dory, directed by Michael Curtis Johnson. This film screening is part of the 2016 – 2017 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers.
Southern Circuit is the South’s only tour of filmmakers, providing communities with an interactive way of experiencing independent film. Southern Circuit provides organizations with the opportunity to screen work from emerging filmmakers and some of the medium’s most respected directors. Screenings are scheduled September 2016 through April 2017 throughout the South Arts nine-state region. The Arts Council of Central Louisiana is one of only two screening partners in Louisiana. The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of South Arts. Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
After his ex-girlfriend disappears, Sidney, a glam rock dilettante, is forced to look after his 11-year-old son full-time. His ‘cool dad’ facade quickly falls apart and his life goes into full tailspin as he struggles to let go of his rock-and-roll lifestyle.
About the filmmaker:
Michael Curtis Johnson graduated from the directing program at the AFI Conservatory where he received a Tom Yoda scholarship and the Bridges/Larson Directing Award for his thesis film Flotsam. His first feature, Hunky Dory, was selected for IFP’s 2015 Narrative Film Lab and won a special jury award at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival, the Grand Jury Award at the Atlanta Film Festival, and the Audience Award at the Nashville Film Festival. His second feature, Savage Youth, was selected for the Venice Film Festival’s 2015/16 Biennale College Cinema.
